Living in the high country gives way to a beautiful lifestyle set in the mountains. The community, outdoor activities, rich and varying landscapes, and definitive season changes are among some of the reasons why people never want to leave the mountains of Colorado. Witnessing nature’s profound regeneration is incredible, allowing us to understand some of the key elements that shape these landscapes, and teaches us how we can contribute as a community to protect our mountain towns throughout these changes in our ecosystem.

As we enter fire season, we should all be aware of the dangers posed by wildfires in Colorado’s high country as precipitation in Summit County is lower than the 30-year median. This summer will likely be considered under drought conditions like in recent years, according to the Summit Daily. Readying your home and surrounding land for wildfire season is imperative to prevent the spread of fire in your neighborhood should a wildfire occur.

Summit County, Colorado, like many other ski counties around the country, is experiencing a shortage of long-term rentals and affordable homes for residents who work in the county. While this issue is not unique to Summit County, the way in which each ski town responds to the issue will be.
